Building "MidMo Speedway"

Part 2

Time for scenery. After a test area (shown) we knew our approach. Here HRWJim stretches screen used for screen doors between the 2 halves. This is our support for the scenery. We fastened the screen to the inside lip of the track with a staple gun.

Gotta feed my helper :) What else but a slotburger?

Here is a section using old packing foam cut up in various shapes.

Here are some items you can find at Wal-Mart in the craft section. Inexpensive, and works fine.

We are using traditional methods here. Woodland scenics plaster impregnated cloth over foam and other items.

This cloth is great. Just cut it off the roll and dip it through water and apply. To increase drying time, use warm water.

This hillside was created by The General using and old foam cooler cut up and sandwiched together. She used acrylics to color.

This shows how the inside progressed. We use newspaper just balled up and thrown randomly.

Finished! This only took a couple days, was a lot easier than I thought.

We use TrackMate for our timing system. Click the photo above for the full article.

Here we see our friends doing battle!

No, it is not a large track but big enough for us. It has been almost 6 years since it has been completed with countless miles on it. For those that have raced here, they know just how much it can be. Even if I had a little more room, I am not sure I would change it.
