Paul Gage Tires Identification System

Choosing the right size after-market tire can sometimes be confusing. Better slot car stores like Slot Car Corner and others have built-in tire to wheel reference charts you can easily follow to accomplish this.

But sometimes this may not work. Maybe the car you have is brand new with a new wheel size they have not updated yet, or you are working on a custom project.

Paul Gage is the leader in after-market urethane based tires and the numbering identification system is actually a great way to determine what you need once you understand it.

Example: One of my favorite tires is the PGT 22125. Let's break it down.

First Two Numbers: Outer diameter (in mm)

Second Two Numbers: Overall width (in mm)

Last Number: width of the center rib (in mm)

There are also tires with letters behind them.

These are special identifications and the definitions are below.

Letter Identifications

LM - Defines a tire with a larger center opening (lower profile sidewalls)

XD - Defines a tire with a deeper center groove for wheels with a taller center rib

XXD - Defines a tire with an even deeper center groove for wheels with a very tall center rib.

FF – Defines an F1 series tire with the fatter sidewalls

SE – Defines tires that have a more rounded sidewall with a narrower contact patch. This helps in fitting tires to clear some body work. Also gives a more street or stock look on some models.

V – Defines smaller vintage/classic size tires with 2mm grooves.

You can always check the Paul Gage Store and use the left hand side of the site to match your car to the tire needed.

Slot Car Corner makes a chart HERE that is for the C.B. Design wheel series.

Hope this helps you in your tire purchasing needs.
