Carrera 1/32nd Scale "Universal Memories" Shelby Cobra 289 #27433

2013 marks 50 years for Carrera in our hobby. There is not another company that has delivered so much to our home racing as they have. From the classic NASCAR series to street rods and almost everything in between, the diversity of Carrera is unmatched. One of the most exciting new series of cars they have produced are the American Classics which easily won our Slot Car Of The Year awards in 2012. It is only fitting that one of these models were chosen to celebrate this milestone.

This latest Cobra pays tribute to the early days and reminds us of how lucky we are today.

This paint scheme and name "Universal Memories" is based on the "Carrera Universal" series of the 60's and you can view the original car here at the Carrera WIKI.

The paint work on our new model is as good as it gets and pays tribute to it's predecessor perfectly.

Carrera has reproduced this classic very well and adding it to my collection was an easy decision. In fact, I had pre-ordered this model even before I knew the true meaning behind the paint design. These models are too much fun and with a price point that most of you can appreciate. Where as some companies have lost sight of the true home racing enthusiast, Carrera has focused. So if you were concerned this model might cost more, don't. This release is the same price as any other standard (non-analog) version.

I am not a pure collector. Very few models arrive here that are left unopened. Yet there are a few that have very special meaning and I simply have no reason to take them out and race them. This release is a little different to me. I feel it should be raced and enjoyed to truly honor the accomplishments Carrera has achieved. On the other hand I have several of these already and even a repaint that sees track time. Perhaps this model needs to just stay where it is?

Not a chance.

This car will be raced. With a price well under $40.00 it makes easier to grab a second one for that spot on the shelf.

I hope the enthusiasts of the 60's had as much fun with their Cobra as we are today.

Congratulations Carrera! We look forward to many years to come.
