ORW Showdown Series! – Retro Racer 44

This simple slot car has a lot of meaning for many enthusiasts. Our good friend Keith who was known as Retro Racer 44 on our forums started this model. Sadly he passed away recently. Soon after this announcement, his fellow local enthusiasts reached out and informed me that they wanted to finish the car he started and get it to HRW in time for the event.

They accomplished their goal and then some. Keith has to be smiling about this one. It’s just the kind of top end model he was famous for and it honors his memory perfectly.

I feel very honored to have this car at HRW. The story about the car started when I posted a “work in progress” topic on creating this body. Soon after it was finished, Keith asked if he could get one for the next Showdown event. Out the door it went and he told me about his plans for the car and was excited to get to work.

He enjoyed modeling in every degree. Home grown castings and custom chassis were just common place for him. His creations were not only unique, but stood out as models that inspired others.

Seeing this car finished by his peers is one of the greatest things I have seen in this hobby.

I cannot thank and praise his “pit crew” enough.

Well done guys, well done!
