New! 1/32nd Scale Policar Track Set

This has been one of the main topics of discussion since the announcement. It has been a long time in the making, but finally it is in house!

This is a full video review.

Might be a little skeptical on the controllers at first. I soon found out they are just fine. In fact BETTER than expected.

Have to compare right? Scalextric and Carrera are the top two brands in our USA hobby today, and felt that was a good comparison.

I don’t think the surface is too abrasive. Nothing like we have seen in the past. (Scalextric Classic/SCX/NINCO)

Most veteran enthusiasts prefer a smooth surface. We like to tune the cars to the track and prefer to use tire blends that give us maximum performance. When you “zoom” in on tire to track contact, the smoother the better for maximum grip. Plus, an abrasive surface can sand/grind away a tire faster than we like. Especially on softer tires like urethane, which is a very popular choice.

But this surface works. Not just for beginners. Across the pond, many clubs use this surface as It does help reduce the dust factor. Dust can “settle down” into the crevices and allow the stock tires to still grip the top surface. It also helps when using stock rubber. That really grips well on surfaces like this. After a few laps, just pick your car up and look at the rear tires. They are virtually sanded and clean.

It is personal preference here. I think Policar found the “sweet spot” between smooth and abrasive. Especially for the simple home racing many will do.

A quick word on the so-called “gap”. I see no issues.

They do the job!!!

And there you have it. With this new power supply, POLICAR has surpassed any other brand as far as I am concerned. For decades the biggest complaint by parents/newcomers is how fast the cars are and they “won’t” stay on the track.

Scalextric has came very close with controllers that have adjustments on them to prevent a “full” trigger. It works pretty well. But not as good as this. Carrera has nothing. No controller adjustments and no adjustable supply. I like Carrera track systems a great deal, but Policar has adapted and it’s time others do the same.

The cost is very fair: $149.95. I think you get your hobby dollar’s return easily.

So even though I race on wood and prefer a smooth surface, this set is very appealing to me. It has great quality in construction and design, cars that can handle the newcomers easily and with the accessories should satisfy almost any enthusiast.
