Re: Sportsman Showdown Gallery 2018

That tortilla Camaro has the look of a very efficient chassis. I suspect a lot of potential there. I like the paint job, too.

Re: Need a soldering gun

I've used several fluxes over the years, all of the above work fine. The best thing I did was to push a large gauge hypodermic needle through the opening of a drip bottle I got with one of my Wellers. I Dremeled the sharp tip off and ground it smooth and round, and it is the best way to apply flux I...

Re: Need a soldering gun

It won't work for me because I need to dial in specific temps for different kinds of jobs and solders and fluxes. There's nothing wrong with it for slot car stuff, that's certain.

Re: Need a soldering gun

Congratulations! You have asked one of the questions that elicit tonnage in opinions that are all heartfelt and sincere. I'm a Hakko man myself. I had Wellers and before that a WEN (ask your grandfather- WEN is the grandfather of Weller). I still have all of them, in various conditions of repair, so...

Re: Tire Discussion

In addition to all these opinions, I can only add that if there is a Paul Gage tire that disappoints, you need to talk to him. He would be very concerned at that, and would fix it as fast as can be fixed. I am certain of that.

Re: A question about how your club enforces rules

I wondered if what you were doing was along the lines of preservation, rather than sticky-glue. If it makes the tires just like new, then it is impossible that it creates an advantage to my mind. From what you say, what you are doing is preservation of "like new" performance. If that is co...

Re: Motor cleaning and breakin in liquids ?

It seems everybody has a favorite method for this. It is valuable as a commutator cleaner and as a minimum wear break-in tool. The following is an edited version of instruction I got a long time ago and kept in my computer. In a glass of cold water, submerge that dude and run it for about 60 seconds...

Re: A question about how your club enforces rules

Strangebrew, I'm still laughing at that one an hour later. I am not a fan of strict rules except when it comes to messing up my track with crap. I have thrown people out of my building for doing that after I had told them it was never allowed. Actually, I think we talked about that incident when you...

Re: looking for nascars

I have a couple of barely run cars and a couple of bodies if you are still hunting. I was going to take pictures and sell them last week, then we froze.

Re: It is cold outside

We're confused and happy here. Suddenly, yesterday, all the snow was gone, and today its 60F outside. Earlier this week we were struggling to keep it 68F inside the house!

Re: INDY CARS for HARRY!!

Honestly, guys... wasn't Indy better then? Real innovation from truly talented people. The talented folks today are buried under the tech folks who do "proof of concept" animations. I miss the cowboy hats and cigars.

Re: Shop truck w.i.p

Speakin' of which, do you happen to have the cruciform Dodge emblem/trim for the nose? They are easy to make once you have the "Dodge" lettering, if not. As far as that goes, I'll bet there are guys who reproduce it. They were made of aluminum, and kind of "clipped" on the louvre...

Re: Shop truck w.i.p

Its your choice, of course Bob, but the way it sits right now is dead perfect for that truck and all the others of that type in that era. You haven't mentioned paint. Want suggestions? Hate suggestions? C'mon, pleeeeze, Bob? Let us dream a little! I promise I won't reach back in my history and sugge...
