Very nice. Doesn't it feel good to have something like this from your first attempt at something?

I have a couple of more questions... First is, do they still make good ol' Blatz? That's a name from the past, like Heileman Old Style, or my beloved old Jax. Second, what do you do to smooth out the resin flares before priming for paint? Is there a filler? It seems like there would be a rough surface to deal with after sanding for shape.

Thanks guys. Yes it was fun Rob. I plan to make more as it is very satisfying.

Blatz is still made. Pabst carries the label.

Using the resin leaves a very clean and smooth finish. Much like what a body looks like. I just feathered the edges a little with 600 grit. See the post on Fender Flaring.

THIS body is one that I made from the mold.

Wet sanded the entire body with 800 grit, primer coat, then wet sand with 1000. Painted the first base color then applied the top.

I used the fine screen mesh from a coffee filter for the front air inlet.

Mr. Brew, you name the time sir. I doubt my heap will keep pace with your effort. I might make a decent "ghost" car for you to practice your passing skills. Slotburgers on the menu for the next visit.

Wow, that came out very nice. I've been thinking of trying some resin casting for small items like motors and drivers. We just got a Hobby Lobby in our area and they have a couple of kits.

That is where I get the silicone. If you time it right with your coupon, the silicone (High Strength or "The Pink Stuff) is pretty reasonable.

The General bought me the test kit and it's great for starting out. I made wheel inserts with that little kit and it's a good way to get your hands dirty fast.

Feel free to copy the entire post URL on FB :)

I don't have the forum connected to FB. Just not secure enough for me. Just picky.
