New Jalopy Build "Semi Live Coverage - COMPLETE"

Ok, I really need to start a Jalopy. Been a lot of work going on and not enough play this week :)

I thought I would do a "Semi Live" project, just posting progress as it happens.



So here is the start. DTR repop kit. NO, it does not come with any Jalopy parts, just a standard kit.

Old Protrack chassis I found while cleaning this place before the Labor Day event.

Paul Gage custom made tires. He has made several of these tires from model kit tires I have sent in.

Big Donkey resin inserts.

I have NO idea what it will look like. Just getting started :)

Ok, time to mount the front axle housing and build a guide tongue.

I set the chassis in the jig. Not the perfect way, but the way that works for this application for me.


Lines it up just fine. Clamp and solder.



Since I have a lot of scrap brass sheet stock, I used it for my guide tongue. Nothing fancy here, but why waste perfectly good brass? Besides, if Locoracer Tom sees this, he will be happy.



I use a torch for my soldering and having some battery clamps helps hold it all nicely. No, this may not be "textbook"...but it works.



Ok all soldered and runs straight as it can.



These wheels are for setup, but so far it is looking ok.

Time to make up some nerf bars and a chrome horn up front :)

Heck of a book isn't it? I think JYD wrote it.

Had to start on the body. Needed to know how it would sit.



Decided to go open top. Sanded windows/hinges/mold lines the best I could.



Opened up the radiator. Sanded the back of it so the body would slide back just a tick to look right. Some screen here will make a nice effect I think.



Little low in the rear, but some shims will fix that.

Scrap copper wire and some K&S brass strip. I will try and find the number sir.
