Super Mods, builds 3 and 4

Postby btaylor » Mon Oct 01, 2018 4:06 am

I had an absolute blast building these cars this weekend. I wanted at least three to fill up my lanes on the new oval, but I just couldn't stop! These are builds three and four. All built on the same basic platform, using identical components. I use a scratch built brass tube chassis, with a .064 brass plate in front. it covers half the frame to add weight, and to allow body mounting. I use slotting plus deep wood guides, with grub screws to hold the wires in place. Gearing is 9/33, as I am using tall rear tires on these cars. Motors are all around 20k depending on what I have on the bench, but all cars run fairly equal. I use mostly cutdown H&R or Pro track wheels, with an occasional set of CB steelies if the build style calls for it. These 1:1 cars used a mix of wheels front to back, and even side to side, so scale modeling isn't affected by my wheel choices. Anyway, here are builds 3 and 4. If you have never built a 1/25 Lindberg super mod, I suggest you get your hand s on the double kit and have it. They are just to much fun to imagine!

You have done some fine work here sir. This is a perfect example of the fun scratchbuilding.

Look forward in joining you, albeit behind the powe curve :)

Super Mods, builds 3 and 4

Are these bodies molded in the colors shown?

At first I was thinking if all had the exact same chassis and components underneath it would make for a competitive series. Then I remembered the 1:1 cars these are replicas of where basically scratch built too, out of whatever was available. So the oddities and differences add realism.

Great Job!

Some of them are molded in colors, but I repaint all of them. The chassis are all the same wheelbase, so once you set up the jig, it goes very quick.
