Opel-Modified

Postby strangebrew » Mon Nov 12, 2018 1:38 pm

I found a little time lately to build the 1st "brand new" slot in several months.
Can't build it as fast as Bob, but I did get it done in 2 or 3 weeks of "spare time".
I was challenged to build a "Smart Car" modified.......Couldn't find a body.
Instead I found an Opel GT to butcher.
built an old school drop guide chassis from mostly 3/64 brass rod with a little 040 sheet brass for good measure.
Some of my mods lift the front at HRW, thus the drop guide.
Piranha motor equiped with Parma guide, Big Mama braid, Pro-Track wheels, Parma gears, Paul Gage rear & home-cast front Urethanes.
Painted with VHT black epoxy, & 2 coats of Dupli-Color Clear-Effects for the color shift-metal flake effect.
It's SHOWDOWN TIME :music-rockout:
............That's about it................

Hi Carumba!

Love the chassis work. Very cool construction. You're getting some killer depth with the metallics and added details.

DANG I had the same body in mind but after reading your post I took a right turn. Just came up from the dudgeon dug out a body I don’t think anyone else will send for the Showdown and I’m covered in resin dust  Nice job Brew I think you did a better job than I would have :text-bravo:

Now that is pretty awesome! I'm always amazed at what you can do with these offbeat body styles.

That must have been fun to do. You did great.

My wife and I test drove an Opel GT when they first came out. We flipped over the flip flop, stick operated, headlights and the cornering speed. We almost bought it. It was a poor man's Corvette, for real. It was just a little too small for my height to fit in for very long, and in those days we took a lot of day trips.

Very cool. Your competition will think they're following a '70 1/2 Z/28 Camaro!
Have fun racing your new creation. Enjoy! -- Ernie :>)
