WHEEL INSERTS

Postby TYMAG » Fri Oct 05, 2012 1:05 pm

O.K., They say the only stupid question is the one not asked. I am using the daytona wheels and tires, but wheels seem to small to accept inserts everyone seems to be using . Can some one educate me about wheel inserts? thanks :(

Sorry, Daytona Pro-Tracks. Inserts in photos I see don't appear cut down that's what had me confused. Thanks for your response.

Another thing to look for, TYMAG... The difference between 1/24 and 1/25 model kits wheels is often the difference between fitting in the wheels with a little work, and fitting right from the box.

If I'm not mistaking, if your using the 1" and smaller PRO TRACK Wheels and Tires, the inserts from the kits are to large. I use the 27mm PRO TRACKS and true them down to 1". The 27mm Tires and will handle the inserts. If they are a little loose, I take 3M Blue Painters Masking Tape and put what I need onto the Inserts until I have a snug fit going into the rim. They pop out easy enough by just pushing through the rim with an Axle.

Good idea. I sometimes have trouble when an insert is just a little to small and this method with the tape makes it equal all around.

Thanks Andy. You hit my problem dead on. I am using the smaller wheels.

Hi tymag, and welcome to hrw. I use rubber glue to put in the wheel inserts. Just take an old model paint brush and put on genorous amounts around the inside of the wheel on the outer edge and insert wheel. When you take it apart you just rub your finger on the old glue and it just rolls up and done. What type of wheel inserts are you using? What I mean is what kind of cars are you modeling on the slot car chassis? Randy

Building street stock type cars. Ford fairlane, Chevelle. Never used inserts, but, would like to start using wheels from kits, stock or reversed type. Also vintage modifieds. Wheel/tire combo I have been using too small to fit wheel inserts.
