Chev '55 Nomad "Show and Go" Old School.....

Postby Cosmic Bilby » Fri Apr 18, 2014 4:58 am

G'day Guys,

This is another car that we built for Nomad Raceway Show and Go class (1.400 breakout).

This is our clubs slowest class of racing, it is an "entry level" class, designed to afford newcomers a place to start in the Drag Racing side of the hobby with models of cars they are familiar with (i.e. street type cars).

"Show and Go" is also our clubs most popular class, with over 20 entries a regular occurrence at our club race nights.

Getting a slot car to run on the 1.400 breakout consistently is a bit tricky, at least I find it this way, I'd much rather run in a head to head class any day.....

The specification for our '55 Nomad is pretty tame by slot drag racing standards but it fits the breakout so all is good.

Body is courtesy of Bill Zaremba (Pennsylvania), chassis is Parma Edge, gears are Parma 48 Pitch, motor is a Plafit Pointer, wheels are Pro-Track.

I found a use for my spare Scalextric bar magnets in this model, they make perfect "ballast" in the Parma Edge chassis, a perfect fit between the chassis rails! The closest I could get our car to run to the index was 1.397, I added two Scalextric bar mags and ran 1.403, this is close enough for me :)

Please enjoy Bills handiwork......

Beautifully finished model! Who says 1/24 slot cars have to be cartoonish, distorted lexan blobs? :>)

Beautiful. I think the Nomad is one of the prettiest station wagons anyway, but that is just a stunner.

Hey Guys,

Thank you :)

Its a beautiful model, runs the 1.400 index very nicely and looks a treat scooting off down the track, it won concourse for its class this week at club (its first meeting), 23 entries at Nomad Raceway in Show and Go.....

My drag car box is starting to get a little attention nowadays, they look great and go ok too :)

Thanks Dave,

Check out the Revell Thunderbird mate, that is our first "In-house" build, it was my first go building a drag chassis from a kit, its a WRP guide plate and motor pod and .082 stainless tube. Goes well too, just got it apart now revising the gearing and managed to cut another 2 grams out of the car, 117 grams isn't bad for that style of chassis :)

The only '55 Nomad in my life was just that color combination, Rob. Its very nice to see it again. Really nice.

No problems Rob!

Glad you liked it, its a nice looking model and gets a lot of looks on club nights :)

It will get some wins eventually too, just have to wear it in a bit and settle it in on the 1.400 index for that class.

There is a '55 or '56 Nomad up here where I live (pop. just on 100,000). I see it every now and then, a very beautiful car, more green than this model, they are as rare as hens teeth in my little part of the world.

Thanks Richard :)

I liked the idea of putting them on, not modern bling like some of the drag wheels can be.....
