Stickers instead

Postby strangebrew » Thu Jun 27, 2019 1:31 pm

Been lurking here all spring....Just can't find time to build right now......Too much outside stuff to do.
But........while packing up my "Holeshot" entry to send to Todd, I was struck with an epiphany :D
Maybe I could use the same packing materials for cheap & dirty graphics.

Dug out the late model resin project that's on hold for right now & worked up some graphics.
Printed on the label paper with my ink jet printer.......
Covered with the Scotch packaging tape..........
Cut to size, peeled off the backing &........... VOILA :o
(And it's glossy too)
I think it worked out pretty good. Won't work well on curved surfaces, but it looks good on the late model

Very well done! I did this on card stock dirt modified bodies before moving up to photo paper bodies. Sponsor logos and graphics can be downloaded from the internet or created in a word processor to get great results.

That #5 is going to look beautiful going through a corner slideways.

Sometimes if you have to reposition a sticker to get it in the ideal position the edge of the sticker where your finger was holding it loses some of its stickiness and lifts from the surface. To address this I've put a tiny dab of super glue under the edge and pressed it down with a small screwdriver or xacto knife.

I just tried sealing the edges of a practice sticker down on a junk body using Future wax. The ink on the sticker ran a tiny bit but when the Future dried the sticker was solidly attached. Generally, I don't cover or coat my stickers with anything.

Any other ideas on how to work with stickers as decals? Especially for curved or irregular surfaces?
