Some time ago, I built a Fujimi Gulf/Wyer 917 to race in our Can Am/Gran Sport class. The body and paint came out so well that I have been afraid to race it. An image of that car is shown below. The car is mounted on a Scholer chassis and powered by a very strong ProSlot 16D motor. It is the fastest of all of my hard body rides including many scratch-built “small wheeled†cars.
I thought it would be fun to build another Fujimi kit and use it as a “race body†for the Scholer chassis/motor combination mentioned above. The project is finally complete. The model is a replica of the car that won Le Mans in 1970. The build was not that easy. First, the body consists of four or five pieces. After the body is assembled, the lower section or pan had to be cut out so that the body could be mounted on the chassis. Second, the decals were a nightmare taking several hours to affix. In the end, the result was worth the effort. I really like the way it turned out. Now the dilemma is which of the two bodies should be the “race body†and which should be the “display bodyâ€. No worries, I have two more unbuilt kits on the shelf; another Gulf Wyer car and another 1970 Le Mans winner. Images of the finished kit are shown below.
