Heres a project Ive been working on for a while on & off. I came across this photo a while ago & thought I would like to build something similar -

Image

The photo shown is of a 1957 Plymouth Savoy 2door Sedan so what Im building is exactly the same as the photo. Ive had the 1/25 AMT Plymouth Fury kit for ages & really didnt like the kit. The side trim is way off on the kits body. The trim that runs up the side arcs like a banana which is not exactly shown in the photo below. So I decided to sand off the trim & downgrade the Fury to a Savoy by replacing it with some strip styrene to replicate a 1958 Plymouth Savoy 2dr Hardtop.

Heres a pic showing my body v's the original.

Heres where Im up to. Painted & foiled. The wheels are just sitting in there atm. Im using a MJK sidewinder chassis I had laying around, H&R Hawk motor, H&R wheels which have been narrowed with my own cast urethane tires. Ill be starting the full interior & chassis tomorrow plus I need to paint the wheel inserts black. Sorry for the lousy photos.

That looks really great Greg! I had a 4 door 57 Savoy years ago. Very cool build.

To sum up this build. I used the AMT 1958 Plymouth Fury kit & I downgraded the trim level to a Savoy. Painted in Tamiya Gloss Black with Tamiya Clear. Full tub interior including rear seat. Driver came from my parts box. Chassis is a MJK sidewinder. Motor is H&R Hawk which was mounted on an angle upright to clear the interior tub. Wheels are H&R modified & narrowed to a more realistic size. Wheel inserts are from Modelhaus, tires are Urethane & cast by me. Any further info wanted just ask.

This will fit right in with my American Graffiti track which is why I built it. Im going to build a few more cars from this era to suit the track. They are all cars Ive started & need to finish off. Then Ill start some track scenery & Im itching to build some more Trans-Am & Darkside Nascar cars. SO much I want to do, so little time!

Thanks for looking

Sorry about the quality of the photos. I used my iPhone & it seems at near full zoom & full sun it creates blurry photos. I didn't notice this when viewed on my iPhone.

Thanks guys, Thanks for the nice comments. I do feel like a freak some times building these, but they are great fun to build & drive on those narrow tires! Im going to get a video together of some of these land Yachts running around the track.

That is a beauty. Gotta love those wings. The only car that would do it better for me is a '59 Coronet.
