That's outstanding work, I'd be as proud as punch.
Your Dad has talent and patience in equal amounts I think.
I truly admire his work. That's Art, right there.

Absolutely fabulous.

I'll be in the minority here, but I would paint it and add some banners like the real one. I don't think it would take away from it at all.

You could paint it in stains or washes and get the best of both worlds. Give it some mild colour enhancement (like a water colour) and still retain the essential matchstick-ness.

didn't people such as model railroaders used to use india ink diluted in alcohol, I think it was, to get a weathered grey look?

do they still make that stuff? I haven't noticed any in hobby stores.
curious because I still have some quill tips left in old drafting kits, pens and compasses. I looked, but I have no remaining ink, not even one of the bottles, which I recall had an eyedropper-like cap with a squeeze bulb. (i'll bet that you artistic types know all about this stuff. please forgive if this is all old hat- I'm just an engineer.)
when I first started in grade school (middle-late 50's), the desks still had built-in inkwells! the classrooms still had the pens, and we used 'em when we went to script letters, mostly because they made a different line width depending on how they were held/moved (I forget the term for it). and yes, the girls' pigtails were fair game- for a little while, anyway, then it wasn't funny any more. next year, we got new desks.
a decade later, when I got my first summer job, it was as a draftsman and they had just stopped using the ink a couple years earlier. when I bought the tools, though, they still came with ink pens.

Kev, you're dad is pretty amazing. you're very lucky.
I think I'd ask Him to put some color or weathering on it- that way it'll be done to the highest standard. (or you could always just leave it out in the sun for a couple years!)

I absolutely appreciate everyones comments and opinions.. but this raw presentation is what he does..
It will mean more to me to have it 'as made by my Dad' than to try and enhance or change it in some way..
All the other cool stuff he's made looks no less amazing with a lack of color (to me anyways)
