PDR Scenery addition - Fuel Truck!

Postby dreinecke » Tue Jan 01, 2013 11:58 pm

No track is complete without a fuel truck! Well, mine wasn't.

I started off with a First Gear fuel truck from eBay that was a blem. I paid under $20 with shipping. There are dozens of these trucks available - Fords, GMC, International, etc. I purchased this one as it was a Sunoco and I really thought I'd keep it that way, but as there are no Sunoco stations in Colorado, it had to be changed!

At the PDR, all fuel is delivered by a real local petroleum company that has been in Colorado Springs for over 40 years; Chief Petroleum.

After a few quick coats of primer and white paint, I added some home-made decals of the logo, weathered it a little bit, and voila! A new truck that fits the era of the track.

Nice one. But he must be on the first delivery for the day. Too clean.

Ember, well I figure the boys from Chief would like their truck to look nice in the paddock. However, it is actually pretty dirty, it just doesn't show up well in the pictures.

I have 4 or 5 First Gear trucks for use on my future, permanent layout. In particular I have one of the White 3000 stake bed trucks that is just begging to be converted to a transporter ala Ecurie Ecosse or the Fiat transporters that Ferrari used.

I was wondering how I was going to repaint my Valvoline fuel truck....now you've given me incentive.

I know a guy that could make that truck go :banana-rock: Give that to Tom and he will have it going and pumping fuel in like 16 min.

I just picked up a very strange 1\24, its a 1968 monogram kit, here is a hint, it has 6 wheels and flys

great repaint Doc

That is very cool. I like the change but also liked the Sunoco version too. It definitely looks the part. As far as the dirtiness of the truck, If I know the owner of PDR I'll bet he has a mandate for cleanliness of all vehicles entering the facility. Jim

That came out nice! I have a old Texaco Dodge Airflow tanker delivering at my track.
