The mechanical return to straight design has the track switched back to straight before your rear end clears the switch, meaning the car behind will not follow you through unless he wants to.

I love analog. Simple and straight forward where the focal point(IMO) is the cars. Digital racing is a slightly different animal from what I have experienced allowing you the opportunity for a race simulation.
I am just not sure why either opinion needs to be combative over the choice. It is all good in my books. The digital experience so far( 1 week) has been great. I guess to counter one opinion expressed here I am 58 and welcome the choice digital has to offer over analog slot cars.
