"not catching fish"... Oh, that is so familiar.
When we were newlyweds, I spent about $100 (a lot back then), on renewing a lot of my fishing stuff that had become antiquated and about to disassemble itself. My new wife (age 20- I was 21), thought I was out of my mind to spend my savings on a bagful of fishing stuff. She said, "You have no guarantee that will get you any more fish than you could catch on the old stuff", but she let me keep it in the back porch since it didn't stink (yet). I just happened to go with my best friend the next time, and his catch and mine added up to a stringer that must have weighed 50 pounds. I thought I had halted the discussion until she tried to help me clean all those white slab crappies. I overdid it. It was midnight by the time we had them all cleaned and filetted for freezing, and from then on, she always warned me not to "bring back more fish than we needed" when I went fishing. No, I didn't tell her. But her relief when I came home with no fish from time to time was very pleasing.
