Braid removal

Postby ovalracer63 » Mon May 13, 2013 4:19 pm

I am thinking about re-braiding my track this summer and wanted to know the easiest and best way to remove the old braid that has been laid with contact cement without pulling up the mdf in the process. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When I re-did my taped oval I used a chisel blade about 1/4inch wide, made by X-Acto (sorry I don't know the number).

After flicking up the edge of the tape with a finger nail, it was easy to use the chisel blade to loosen the sticky backing.

Might be easier with braid because you've got something more substantial to get hold of.

Just found the number written on the blade (Duh!) - X-Acto no.17.

You may find you still have a sticky residue.I used white spirit on a cloth and a lot of elbow grease.
