The table (20 x 8) will need to be pulled up into the ceiling of the garage when not in use. Originally I was going to do this with .5 MDF and a routed track hoisted by a winch but that didn't seem feasible (after we built the table we figured it wouldn't work as we initially planned) and 350lbs hanging over your head (and the M3 and the Ducati...) so I'm going a different route with Carrera track. I've got eye bolts to mount to the track base and to route cabling to hoist the track and screw on legs once the track is lowered. What I'm after is something light that won't flex too bad (or break) when it's being raised or lowered. A friend used aluminium and gatorboard but thats too spendy for me.
Thoughts?

How are your wood working skills? I built a 7X14 using box girders constructed from 3/4" X 3/4" and 1/8" bending panels. The ribs were 3/4" by 2". There are some good pictures on the first page of this HRW thread.

What about MDF/plywood polystyrene foam sandwich. It's pretty tough and light at the same time. It must be good, they used to build yachts with it (maybe not the MDF bit though). I built some room/space dividers for a café a few years ago with 3mm MDF on each side of 30mm polystyrene foam and they were pretty tough. I couldn't put my fist through one. They would need some wooden boxing around the edge of the sandwich that would need to be exactly the same thickness as the foam but it can all go together with a few brads and PVA glue.
