My plan was to use 1/4 inch thick foam board , with a 1/4 in gap between it and the track , just in case of track expansion during races . The foam board is just thick enough as the track . This way if you come into a corner a little hot you will ride the foam board a little bit before you spin out . At least that is my idea .

This has been over 7 months with no progress, so just screw the track down and race. Once you decide on something permanent, pull up the track and cover the table with something and get serious. You probably won't be happy with your initial designs anyway, so try out some ideas.

Yes in deed, there's nothing like the smell of voltage and the squeal of tires to liven up a day.

Get'r done and mash that throttle! Post some lap times so we can see how tuning and testing are going.
