With my main track in storage for the winter, I normally end up testing at the club track. I finally decided that I needed a track for winter as well.
My solution:


A free laminate countertop, roughly 30 in wide and 7 ft long. Cheap and easy routing, easy surface to clean. With the limited space, I wanted adjustable power.


Also cheap and easy, $5 worth of components from ebay. Haven't gotten directional switch yet, that's next. And I can move them to the big track, so I can have 3 independent lanes off my one budget power supply ($10 at a rummage sale for 15A supply).

So at least I can test my winter builds!

Nope, not a drink holder....a cord pass through. I was going to fill it but didn't. ..and then decided that it was a good feature to help me work on driving smoothly without throwing the tail out so much.

Paul, you have to have some kind of track to just see if your wheels are round and your cars go in the right direction! Not having any track at home ( moved mine to a bigger garage), I am trying to think up the easiest way to set up a small oval just to test cars and make sure the setup is right. I would prefer a small oval that I can hinge to a wall somewhere and just pull down to use, or slide under a bed and pull it out to run something. Trouble is I just don't have a wall available or a bed that doesn't already have a bunch of stuff crammed under it!!!!

I got tired of no track. But the bed is against the other wall so it's not a total slot cave.

Once that happens I will make a nicer track with elevation and scenery. But this fit the bill and was basically free....recycle countertop and tape leftover from the big track. It works, and will let me know if the wheels are round and all touch the ground when moving.
