I like the scenery - really 'dresses up' the track. Can you post some close-up shots of the different buildings/grandstands?

Love the "skid marks" coming into the corner (along with all of the scenery!) - very cool touch! :D

Thanks guys!

Lister, I got lot's of inspiration from your track and used ceiling tile to create a cliff face for the area beside the Rahal straight. Your new track is already looking awesome!

Cheers,

I haven't done any work to the track in a long time, what with Mom's passing and all. It's been rough and family's getting weird. I have to remember we all grieve differently. Anyway, getting back into it (much needed distraction) and so this morning I decided to take a few more static shots of cars on the track. For your enjoyment….

Thanks guys. There are approximately 300 spectators in the grandstand. I have another with just as many but no place to put it on this track, at least for the time being. Bibbster, regarding the camber - I had to use 3/8" mdf to get it to flex enough. It was a leftover section of track from my first routed track and has slots on the underside. There are also some additional kerfs in it. As you know, mdf will split without warning and a small crack did develop along one edge of the track. Luckily, the crack ran only as far as one of the slots from the original track and stopped there. I was able to repair the crack with some wood glue and a few clamps. The corkscrew is rock-solid now. And it's a lot of fun to race on. Because of the camber, you can punch the throttle when the car gets to where the gold Riley is in the picture. Believe it or not, we can often get 1/32 cars through the squeeze side-by-side, as long as one car is about a half car length ahead of the other. The cars will get a bit sideways, but they'll get through. That probably says a lot about the guys I race with.

Steve,

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I've been there too and it isn't easy. You are right though: no one grieves the same. I hope things smooth out for you though.

The track looks FANTASTIC as always!

Yeah, that's my daily driver in the background. A 2006 C6 convertible. My other car, a 1993 Mustang Notchback with GT40P heads and intake, 65mm throttle body, E303 cam, 90 LPH fuel pump, Mac shorty headers, Flowmaster 2 1/2" catback, American Thunder mufflers, 3.55 gears, and Cobra disc brakes was relegated to the driveway since I bought the Vette.

Here are a few more pics of the track. Yesterday, I made a few much needed improvements to the slot room. One was a lighted magnifier for the workbench. Until now, I had been working blind. The magnifier makes working on the cars a real joy! The other is a 40" flat screen TV. Now we can watch races and car shows while we race. I'm hoping the Tudor Sportscar race will be a distraction for the Atlanta Gang when we race with them on the 20th. Maybe that will give us SCANCs the performance edge we need to beat them. Probably not.

Thanks guys. I've been doing some more work to the landscaping, adding guardrails of various types and getting the track ready for Carolina Chaos this weekend. I'm also working on some graphics for a Dunlop Tire bridge that will straddle the track between T3 and T4. The bridge will measure 48" long x 9" high x 4" wide with a cutout for the cars that is 20" wide and just shy of 4.5" high. Pics to follow at some later date….
