Todd, what kind of shutdown length do you use at that track?

If you use the same system to eliminate cars in the drag class, you could draw the line at 1/4 mile (1/32 scale), and just have a judge eyeball the winner, perhaps with a slo-mo camera. We wouldn't need times for the drags, maybe just for the LSR. I like the idea of a scale 1/4 for the drags.

No shut down length, just a very big pillow, eh?

Bob - that is a good question!
I am not sure of the length of the shut down - but it is comprised of shorted braid with a glued track surface. There are foam blocks at the end as a safety but I haven't seen a 1/32 car get anywhere near that. :)
(for reference, our Spec Drag cars which are going through the traps at 35+ mph only make it about half way through the shut down area before stopping)

Retro -
We will have to check into the viability of a "1320" line - but depending on how many cars we get, and how close they are in performance - it might not be practical.
(especially with using the common launch)
For now I would figure on 1760 for the first venue to be safe... :)
(we are exploring a second venue in Akron,OH that may have alternate capabilities - but at this time, I don't have the full details on that track)

Yes, my question was for the same reason. Might be able to build a track myself. just didn't know how much room was needed for shutdown. I am cool with the pillow idea!

I will try to remember to get some measurements when I am up there this Wednesday guys - but my guess is that it is in the 15ish foot range... :)
Oh - and I think you will definitely want some shut down area at the end before impacting anything - even if it is something as soft as foarm or a pillow as the cars will be traveling 20-35 mph depending on the class / motor / gearing and that straight into anything is going to result in some carnage I would think... ;)

Now that would make for some impressive looking video action!
