I read about this on another blog. It's a very, very sad day. Dave was probably the nicest guy in slot racing.

RIP Dave

+1 on that.

May we all remember him by trying to be more like him. He respected everyone who held a controller and raced a slot car. He stayed above the petty squabbles that sometimes have infested our hobby. He was a great builder and a superb racer, but above all a very humble and immensely likeable man.

RIP, my friend.

Thank you for posting this notice...

Shocked and sorry to hear Dave has passed away!

He was a great guy, loved slot car racing, and was fun to race with. He was a fantastic chassis builder, making old school brass tube chassis that looked like beautiful art sculptures. He taught me how to solder better and how to paint lexan bodies.

I met him in 1996 when I had just got back into commercial track racing. He was nice enough to let me practice even when he was closed!

We had many years of great times racing with a fun group of people, we were like a family playing, talking, eating together at DJ’s Hotslots in Itasca, IL. I loved his LTD track and missed it when he closed down.

I talked to Dave not too long ago, he seemed very happy! He told me he got to fly out to Europe to meet some of professional slot car racers that were his heroes as a kid. He got very excited talking about it. It was good to see him in such high spirits!

Attached a couple of photos of one of our last races at DJ’s before he closed down the track. It was our annual New Year’s Day race, JYD came up with the theme…Ynot2K Bug Race(Jan. 1, 2000) The only exclusively VW slot car race I have experienced. It was fun seeing them go around the track. Sorry the pictures are a bit fuzzy in resolution.

Dave, teching the VW Beetles for the race...

I went to the memorial service last Saturday. It was amazing that half the attendees were slot car people,
and many from other parts of the country.
