Picked up a Slot It Matra 670 B body off a fellow forum member awhile ago with the intention to re-chassis. The stock Slot It is a great running car but my curiosity got the better of me.

Chris W`s recent post on FF050 slimline motors and Devised Designs motor pods kick started this chassis build, my combination of piano wire, brass strip, tube and a plastic motor pod.

Of particular interest is one of Devised Designs (DD) last slot car products, a sidewinder slimline motor pod (zero offset) suitable for any Slot It motor pod application. Saw discussion on SCI in the DD section and bought one soon after. Gears are a MR Slot Car, 10t 5.5mm pinion with a Slot It 36t, 19mm spur.

Should be running soon.

Very interested. Gears for the Slimline are a puzzle for me.
The Matra is hands down the fastest slot.it at Smithtown....so it will be very interesting to see if the hybrid is faster than stock on your tracks.

Basic chassis assembled.

Changed to a MB Slot 34t, 19mm spur gear for a 3.4:1 ratio. Think it's a better match for the Scalextric Sport 25K motor.

Runs fine but we'll see once the body's mounted.

Chassis sidepans added and assembled.

Pans and body trimmed for a flush fit.

Body mounted with single front and rear body posts.

Stance is good with pans covered by the body sills.

Weighs in at 87 grams compared to the stock car's 77 grams.

Feels good on my test track but a comparison run on Luf's Big Targa will confirm the performance.

Cosmetically, just need some wheel inserts.

All in all, a good outcome.

Just a beautiful job as always.
Interesting to see how the 10g affects the times on the Targa. Hope it goes as good as it looks.

Re-visting this build as there was a frustrating handling oversteer.

Changed the single body post mounting to singles on each side pan. Thinking this'll make the chassis side pan flex functional.

Yep, made a difference of a couple of tenths for fastest lap on my short and twisty wood track.

Mounted taller fresher tires out back and gained another tenth for a fastest lap of 5.793 seconds.

Happy with the improvement though it's nowhere near my stock Slot It Matra's best lap of 5.505.

Coming to the conclusion that the use of FF050 motors is best for builds weighing less than 70 grams for noticeable performance.
