Sloter Lola T280/90 - re-chassis

Postby VTECFOUR » Sat Jun 08, 2019 3:43 pm

The Sloter Lola T280/90s offered quite awhile ago were one of my favorite cars. Pulled one out recently and it seemed a bit sluggish compared to the Slot It Alfa Romeo T33. Time for a re-chassis, one of my adjust-o-wheelbase ones that work really well under a small body.

Cut and shaped the usual materials for assembly.

- .064" brass guide tongue
- 5/32" brass guide post tube
- 1/8" brass front axle tube
- 3/32" brass square front axle supports
- 3/32" brass square tube main rails
- .064" brass front cross member
- .064" brass rear cross member
- .032" brass side pans
- .062" piano wire front assembly sliders

Will be motorized with a slimline FF050 motor held in a 3d printed motor pod.

Chassis assembly won't take long.

Sure nice having an body already done as modeling from scratch takes me a lot longer than building just a chassis.

Always enjoy your builds, Dan!
Those Sloter Lolas look pretty but need a little motive assistance. I am sure this one will hop to it shortly!

Chassis's assembled and running.

Rolling stock's Slot It 15 x 8 rims and Pink Kar low profile tires up front and Mitoos F1 wheels and Fly March F1 urethane rear copies at the rear.

Motor's the Scalextric FF050, 25K green can geared 3.3:1 with Slot It 9t pinion and 30t crown gears.

Mounted body with one single front and two single side posts. Think the latter takes more advantage of the flexing side pans.

Car weighed in a 82 grams compared to the stock 61 grams.

Ran the car in comparison to stock Slot It classic open cockpit cars on my short and twisty wood track.

Best fastest laps were:

Chaparral 2H - 5.924 seconds
Alfa Romeo T33 - 5.856
Ferrari 312 - 5.852
modified Lola T280/290 - 5.689

Got the hoped for result.

Out of curiosity, ran the the Slot It Matra 670B, the gold standard for me, and got a scorching 5.506.

Went further and ran my scratch build Ferrari 312P Spyder for a best lap of 5.556. Pleased with that.

Couldn't wait for the remaining cosmetics, so installing an interior tray and re-positioning the original transmission, tail lights and exhaust pipe detail will finish it off.

Gotta finish that 1/24 McLaren Elva now.
