I seriously doubt that it does anything "extra" as far as digital is concerned. However, as for the look, while I agree that it is very ugly, it looks functional. When lowered, the two "squares" look like they fit under the tires and there looks like there's a slot it the middle.

I see some potential. Its not the exact design id pick but hey who else in the slot car world took this chance? Ill be buying two! One to leave alone and One to make into a different speciman :).

If in fact this is carreras tow truck. Keep ot up. You guys are stepping where no other slot manufactures are not willing to go. Bringing more vintage cars back and now this!! I for one thank you!!

Actually I was thinking maybe the ability to back up a short distance - to pick up the cars. It could also use some of Carrera's sound technology to make the sound of air brakes, rattling chains, and/or a winch. There is nothing in the Carrera system (that I know of) that would allow this kind of feature. Maybe a simple switch with a secondary chip on the truck to activate the reverse motor - then controlled by the controller plunger for backward movement. The chip modification would also reduce the speed significantly so you could control backing up. It could also activate that annoying "beep - beep - beep" of a truck in reverse. In addition to the sounds of chains, there could also be additional radio chatter in the background. I'm sure there is enough room inside the cab to place a speaker, etc. Since the windows are blacked out, this might be a good vehicle to have a ready made camera mount inside. Or, if you want to take it even further... how about a FPV (First Person View) camera with virtual reality?

If you towed a slot car with the rear wheels dragging on the track, would it have a bit of resistance to being pulled because of the drag on the motor magnets? I am wondering if it might take a little power to get this around the track while dragging another car.

I think it is a neat novelty and I might pick up one someday.

Wow... I've not even seen these on-track photos... it sure looks good! Also just to pick up on what "Slottus" has said... that large black area on the front of the truck will be a silver grille... not a large black opening.

Is this a one-time deviation, or does it herald a new era in which Carrera shifts away from offering scale models of existing cars and instead releases toys derived directly from the minds of their in-house designers?

I ask this because I am having difficulty reconciling where this model fits in with the range currently on offer, save perhaps the Disney Cars line were it to have large googly eyes tampoed on the windshield.
