If Pioneer releases a Javelin which motor configuration?

Postby BRS Hobbies » Wed Feb 22, 2017 3:59 pm

If Pioneer releases a Javelin which motor configuration would you prefer?

My vote would be a sidewinder motor configuration to match the Pioneer and older Scalextric Trans Am 1/32 slot cars.

Best regards,
Brian

Ditto, I think a sidewinder would complement the other Trans Am cars.

How about standard as a sidewinder like always, and maybe a 3d inline for those wanting to go that route. After all its been done before so someone is capable
Olifor , CG , Arco, or even a new pipslot adjustable chassis. Pioneer seems to work well, the way it is, and i am not really convinced that side winder is that much better than inline anyway.
My 2 cents

So which configuration is perceived to be better performing? I have found that inline setups work as well as or better than sidewinders.

Inline

Sidewinder limits tire width and a giant gear to one side looks cheap to me.

If I want sidewinder / anglewinder I'll buy slot.it.

I've seen both types be fast...personally I think inline works better in low power cars..high power cars don't care, everything works. I also think wheel choices and sizes are easier for inline cars, along with track width etc. ymmv.

So, if the new inlines compete and are beaten then why bother having a sidewinder only rule? Up to now the only Trans Am inline cars have been the SCX Barracudas.

I will get one regardless of motor orientation. Bob is correct SCX Cudas are inline. However Steve was able to win the 2016 TransAm proxy with this configuration. So they run just fine compared to sidewinders. Quick observations with my new Scaley Javelin with the magnet removed shows similar times to the Scaley Camaro and Challenger in stock trim.

What I have observed in (OMG!) 55 years, is that configurations either enhance or match established principles. That may sound odd, but think about a long wheelbase that has an inline vs. a short wheelbase with a sidewinder. Almost always they are a match. The Pioneer Mustangs were a nice pairing of sidewinder with a short wheelbase, with the added help of a fairly wide track. Javelins were longer wheelbase, almost as long as the Chargers, and as a sidewinder, would be a bit tail happy, in my estimation. Either situation is easily balanced, so it really doesn't matter. Does that help with the question?

I would rather see Pioneer add to the existing major line of Trans Am cars rather then to invent a new or small minority. Up to the new Javelin the SCX Cuda was the only option and in every Trans Am race I have participated the SCX is no real factor. I did see one Cuda win a race but it was on a modified Scaley NASCAR chassis. I say sidewinder with a 18K rated motor. We have one last round hole to fill, a round peg would be more logical than a modified square peg.
