The loose motor pods screws allow the chassis and the pod to flex relative to each other, which makes the car corner more smoothly. It's the same as backing off the body mounting screws - isolates vibration.
Also the moldings of the chassis and/or pod are sometimes a little twisted, so loosening the screws allows everything to sit flatter and straighter.

You could use an X-acto knife to pry up the eyelet far enough to grab it. It is best to pull on the eyelet rather than the wire, if you pull the wire out of the eyelet you will have to fuss a bit to get it back in.
