PG tires for GB Track Chevron B19

Postby slothead » Wed Jun 12, 2019 7:37 pm

I bought a new Chevron B19 on HRW last week and am prepping it for my Can Am series. This is my 2nd GB Chevron and the prior one runs great on PG tires, but I don't remember what size I used.

The lookup program on the SCC website says PG 21117, 21127, or 21128. I found a pair of 21117's in my stash but they seem narrower than what is on the other Chevron and I had a hard time getting them to seat properly, so I put the stock tires back on.

Anyone know which of the above sizes, or another size, that is a good fit for the Chevron? If I end up ordering new PG's for it I'll opt for PGX's because I find them easier to get on wheels.

Are you sanding/truing the wheels?

They are standard Fly Classic wheels. 21127 might be a tad narrow but more than adequate.

Inner rib is 6.25. So the "7" is the right number. Fly classic tire is 11.67 wide at the rib but contact patch is 11.40

21127 are 10.75 contact patch STOCK. But when you sand them they widen according to the sidewall. Look at the stock patch and notice the mold line.

That is the right tire.

No, I haven't done anything to the wheels.

Thanks for the info. I'll order some PG 21127's and some XPG 21127's and see which works best.

You already know but, you might need to trim off the motor shaft and likely bevel the pinion. The clearance on all of mine made that mod standard.

Of course you reduce the diameter of the tires when truing, but still too close for me :)

As Harry said, the standard PG Fly Classic tires work very well. If that Chevron you bought from me wasn't a shelf queen, it would have arrived with the PG tires. I am really happy to see you enjoying the Fly Classics.

I found a pair of PG 21127 tires on my work table today and after making the modifications Harry wrote about, got them mounted. I also had to add an axle spacer to remove side-to-side play in the rear axle.

After cleaning the tires (not sanded yet) the Chevron B19 qualified 2nd fastest out of 25 cars. Right behind a Slot.It Chaparral 2E and in front of a Slot.It Ferrari 312P.

Both of the GB Track Chevrons I've gotten on HRW this spring are great looking and fun cars to drive.
