Free source of rubber washers

Postby Mickey thumbs » Sat Jul 13, 2019 3:36 pm

Many folks use some kind of cushioning spacer between floating chassis/body connections. I was doubtful of my ability to cut even, thin slices from tubing as recommended by some. But some wide rubber bands from the carrots and leeks from the grocery and some common punches worked great!

Great idea. I use the same combination of tools to make guide spacers out of clear plastic packaging.

I've tried both, and the nylon sheet from some plumbing and auto part kits (there's always some left over). They all perform, the same, excellently.

I've got a bunch of black rubber pond liner that looks like inner tube rubber. Never thought of using it for rubber washers until this thread came along. Thanks

I bought a packet of 2mm craft foam sheets for a few dollars over 10 years ago and still have 90% of it left to use for this idea.

Where can you get the punch for cutting out the washers?

It's a leather punch. You can find them on Ebay or at Harbor Freight.

And besides using them for body mount spacers , you can also use them for motor mounts , maybe keep vibration down and gear mesh minimal .

And what I meant , was to get a better gear mesh

I bought a leather punch at Harbor Freight and made some washers out of black rubber pool liner. It's .043 thick and I think they are going to work great. Mickey Thumbs, thanks for telling us about this.
