I've run with some guys using Sprint car bodies on Sprint Plus chassis with Piranha motors on a small oval (14' end to end).
These have lexan bodies on brass chassis. And we use lightweight lexan wings on them.
As a corner marshall set up on the outside of the corner, you do feel a breeze from them when a group of them go past.
These cars are definitely faster with the wings than without.
As for GT and LMP cars like those from Scalextric, Fly, Carrera, etc, I personally don't think wings give you an advantage. The weight of the plastic wing up high is counter productive (IMHO-no actual proof).
That being said, the clubs I race with generally require everyone to have to wing in place. After all, we are racing "scale" cars... :D
