Guess who these guys are?

Postby VenturaAlfa » Mon Nov 24, 2014 12:23 pm

Ok, Here is your Monday photo. For a first prize of an attaboy guess who both drivers are and where this picture was taken. Winner gets this :music-rockout:

Image

Hint: neither driver made the top 25 dirtiest drivers of all time but at least one should be part of the most successful drivers of all time.

It's Laguna Seca and Dan Gurney in the 96 and AJ Foyt in the 6.

Dan Gurney, Bruce McLaren? I remember the center seat #6 had a tiny little passenger seat that would not fit a jockey. Laguna Seca?
If I'm wrong it at least proves I didn't google the answer.

Bonus points: Aren't both cars red?

I think it is Dan gurney and Roger Penkie , I think the cars are a Lotus 19 and the cooper modified to be a Zerix special.

I think eightwheels nailed it. Except for the spelling of Roger Pinkie's name. Will be interested to learn the verdict.

Colonel Mustard in the study with a lead pipe!

I also think Eightwheels got it, but on the off chance he's wrong, I'd say Dan Gurney and Mark Donohue. In the study with a lead pipe.

Ding, Ding, Ding, we have a winna' and an attaboy to eightwheels. It is Dan Gurney and Roger Penske and a partial attaboy to Alaska racer for recognizing the corkscrew at Laguna Seca. One of the scariest turns in all of motor sport. At the top there you can't see the track from the car. you turn left and pray a lot. There are trees there now which give you a frame of reference and help some but it still puts your heart in your throat a little bit each time you drop into it.

As to color, the number 6 is red for sure, I don't know about the 96 but I think it was blue?

Its a Zerex Special... Eightwheels thanks!
I was pulling my hair out because it looks like a Tipo 61 with a center seat..... I made the same mistake years ago calling it a Maserati... Couldn't remember what the name was.... Give that guy a :music-rockout:

Other car is a Lotus 19 - red also I believe.....

Even I could recognize it as the Corkscrew. There are only two race tracks in the world with such a steep fall away on a corner, and that picture definitely isn't the Dipper at Bathurst. ;) :D

Fun to research this stuff sometimes. I did not realize the 96 was also red and was sponsored by the Arciero Brothers. They own a winery not to far from me up in the Atascadero area and have some of their old cars on display there. Next time I'm there I'll have to look around and see if I can find out more about the car.
