Can-Am Proxy 2018 - Tracks

Here's a thread for the tracks that will be used for this Can-Am series.

All will be routed wood tracks with either copper tape or braid rails. We still have some tracks yet to designate, but below is a list of what we have so far. I'll add to the list as we get more commitments. Remember, it will be a total of 8 races; 4 in the US and 4 in Canada.

Pics and details of the tracks will be added to this thread as soon as I receive the information from the hosts, so stay tuned to see the types of tracks that your cars will be running on.

1. The River Run - Audi1 / Merrimac, MA

2. Cornerstone Raceway - mether05 / South Grafton, MA

3. Palmer Divide Raceway - Dogsbody / Denver, CO

4. Penguin Point - Kidvoltage / Seattle, WA

5. Maple Ridge - Superslab / Vancouver, Canada

6. GETCARS - radarek / Edmonton, Canada

7. Circuit Courville - cgingras / Quebec, Canada

8. Canfield Green - chappy / Ontario, Canada

In order to try to keep this series on a short timeframe with a late-Spring start and a mid-Fall finish, the flow of tracks will be: Eastern US to Western US to Western Canada to Eastern Canada, then back to me for shipment of the cars back to the racers.

That's if for now.

Circuit Courville in Québec, QC usually runs between 10 and 10.5 volts. Plenty of power, the wiring has almost no resistance on this track.

The River Run also uses a constant 10V. We, generally, leave the voltage up to the track owner, since they know how cars tend to run best on their own tracks. On balance, 10V-10.5V seems to be the most commonly used voltage, but I'll post voltages when I post the pics and details of each track.

The Western US and Western Canada tracks are now confirmed, thanks to Kidvoltage (Monte) and Superslab (Alwyn), so we're just checking on the Mid-US track details now and then we can finalize the racing tracks and set the schedule.

Good to know. I didn’t realize the track voltage was only going to be 10 volts on most of these tracks. This means the 21 k motors are probably only running at 18 K,and of course an 18 K motor will only be turning 15 k

I will definitely be changing the motor to something running a higher rpm. I should have paid closer attention to this. A lower rated motor will just be slow as any advantage it had is just dialed out.

Is this an accurate observation? I am still new at this, but it would seem the most important criteria in proxy racing is track voltage, and the motor rpm thing could almost be wide open. The important thing then is track host does not turn down the voltage to make a hot motored car easier to drive,as that would be unfair to the guys who chose a mildered motor in the interest of having an easy car to drive.

Not to hijack my own thread...........but, I think that the most important aspect of the car is how the chassis is tuned. For instance the Group 5 NW Proxy cars run at varying voltages at the different tracks; 10V being probably the lowest and 12+V being the highest. Generally, the cars that do well at one track do well at the others, too. If you race exclusively on tracks with long straights, then the motor may be the chief concern, but most of the races that I've seen or been in have been won in the corners, by the car that was best tuned in terms of tire grip and drivability.

Having said that, I think you're consideration of motors and the effects of lower voltages on them is correct.

And now........back to our regularly scheduled program........... :D

Alwyn, I concur. That's always how we looked at it. If you use a Ninco motor you'll need to do the math since they are usually rated at 14.8V I think.
