SCCA Proxy 2018 - The Tracks

Here's a thread for the tracks that we'll be using for the upcoming SCCA Proxy.

There will be a total of 10 races; all on routed wood tracks. Since the SCCA races were US-based, I'm trying to keep all of the races within the lower 48. We'll see how that works out.

I'll also ask each track host to post a pic of their track and describe what their regular racing conditions are; length, surface, voltage, etc.

Here's some info on the Pebblestone Model Car Circuit:

The track stands on a covered patio behind my garage, no basements in SoCal! This means that we are a little weather-limited, sometimes in the summer it is just too hot to race, and we get our rain in the winter. The track is best when temperatures are in the mid-70s.

Surface is MDF, painted with UMA (urethane-modified acrylic) so it is quite tolerant of multiple tire types. Rubber tires work best though, NSR Supers and Ultras, Slot.it N18 and N22 all work well.

Contact is recessed braid, about .010" below the track surface. The slot is 1/8" wide and deep enough to accommodate a full commercial guide, so any type of 1/32 scale guide will work.

Lap length on each of the three lanes is 60 feet and 3 inches, the "outer" red lane is the fastest by about 0.1 second over the center blue, which in turn is another tenth faster than the "inner" yellow lane. The front straight is nearly 12 feet and the inside straight around 10.

Power is from a Pyramid PS26KX supply, normally set to exactly 12 volts. Timing and Scoring is by TrackMate using a light bridge.

Drivers in Proxy events here often use their own controllers, but there are track units available, these are Professor Motor Diode controllers with brake and sensitivity adjustments.

The fastest Proxy laps recorded here were in the North American Group 5 proxy, with times down in the 5.4 second range. For reference, a stock Slot.it Gp C car on its kit tires will run around 6.7 seconds, and around 6.1 on N22s.

Hi Folks! I'm posting on behalf of a fellow club member, Tony Rogers.

Here's some information on Red Sands Raceway:

Length: 85 ft
Lanes: 4
Power: 10.0v
Surface: flat latex (rubber tire track)

The track has varying lane lengths - yellow being the shortest lane, and red being the longest lane. Qualifying will be performed in one of the center lanes. Red Sands Raceway has two lane squeezes - one is at the downhill cork-screw and the other at a 180° hairpin. The track is a blast to drive, and cars that behave well on tight corners are rewarded on this track.
