Taylor TA proxy Camaro

Let's build the big ones!

Taylor TA proxy Camaro

Postby strangebrew » Fri Sep 14, 2018 4:09 pm

My 1st foray into 1:24 building in a LONG time.
Dug out an old kit I had in the bottom of a drawer.
Who'da thought it'd be the same one Tusco is building......
Oh well it'll make a good comparison.
Ordered an RTR H&R chassis from SCC & some PG tires, that's about it so far.
got the body mounted about where it should be, so we'll move on from here.

Lots of great work being done on this proxy............
I haven't had much time to build....lots of family stuff to attend to.
Don't see a lot more time this month. Hope I can finish in time. :violin:

I did manage to get the small block Chevy installed today.

Getting ready to box up the Camaro & send it on it's way to do battle..........
Decided to just go with the original box color orange.
Looked like just the right color for an early 70's Z-Car.
Used some of the AMT kit decals along with some home-brewed ones.
Finished the body off with a chrome pen & a coat of "Pledge Floor Care".
Left the H&R chassis stock. Swapped the Motor for a Jaws.
Used the H&R wheels with the original foams on the front.
Put Paul Gage tires on the H&R wheels for the rear.
Made a styrene half-tray interior with the kit dash & Professor Motor driver figure
& the kit seat back......
1/8 styrene rods for the roll cage.

Gotta' admit I don't do 1:24 & don't know much about the Trans-Am series.
Hope this is a reasonable representation. :? :?

Got a 1:24 engine from Shapeways & figured a way to get it into the chassis
without too much grinding & cutting.
Used the kit firewall & radiator also.
Mounted the hood with straight pins poked through the body work into some dense foam glued underneath.
Made quite a few laps on my track & nothing came loose.

Found some wheels to use as inserts from my antique parts pile in the basement that
closely resemble the stuff used in TA I hope.

I like it. I agree about the engine, pretty cool idea to hold the hood on also. The Ajax Liquor store should be proud to be the sponsor.
