I stay around 18.5 volts going in, that's what the Carrera power supply is rated at. Amps could be a problem, the track will only pull as many as needed. The cars themselves don't pull much, but if you have a short, the track could pull as much as available. I have a 10 amp PS, but put a 7 amp fuse in, I'm told the CU will handle 8 amps, but just under is better.

This is cheaper than CU's. Almost fished my motor comparison test. Interesting results.

I set mine at 20-22v according to the meter on my power supply when running stock motored D/124 cars. I have not checked the voltage at the track to see the actual voltage at the rails.
Some of my D/124 cars have 12v motors and when running them I run around 17v.
Oh, almost forgot 10 amp PS with a 6.5 or 7a [I can't remember which  ] fast blow fuse between the PS and CU. The fuse is a must have just to be sure.

I would say the upper limit (voltage wise) for the control unit is 18 volts. You might get away with a volt or two above that but 23 to 25 volts is definitely too high.

Best regards,

LOL, he hasn't been back since he posted his question. My question was going to be what are you running that you need that many volts and maybe their hopped up motors?
