Excellent tutorial, thanks to both Audi1 and chrisguyw.
I just received my first modern f1 car, a scalex super-resistant red stallion. Plans are to make a digital class.
I have only glued and trued the stock rear tyres and without magnet the car handles like a pig (both on plastic and wood track).
I will look at ways in which it can be improved while retaining most of the stock components.

I just did a quick job of it. I am planning to do more work later on the week.
I am also planning to use the SRC slimline motor as the one suggested here as the one supplied does not have any brakes.
As for the front wheels: did they true the front one? I usually taper and cover with CA my front wheels but I think it will look stupid on an open-wheeler.
If you happen to make a tutorial about how you guys are setting up these cars it would be really great: they look pretty good for the price.

Hey Chris, thanks for all the tips on fixing the front axles on these cars. I've got a Scalex 2017 Williams on the way and I'd like to replace the front wheels with alloys. Given the width parameters Allan has proposed, what suitable wheel might work with the stock Scalex front tires (or Zero Grips in that size, if they exist)?

If you use alloy wheels from slot.it/nsr/etc. which inserts do you recommend?

We're doing as much as we can to limit damage to these known-to-be-fragile cars. There will be some damage; we all know that. Thanks for pointing out the fragility of the chassis behind the axle on that car, tin_indians.

One thing that I'm toying with is to allow replacement nose pieces to be sent in with the cars. In general, in a front-end collision, the nose piece is the "buffer" between the wall and the front axle assembly; it usually goes before the front axle goes. The front diffusers on most Scaley F1 cars are fairly easily changed out with a single screw. On some the diffuser screws directly into the nose, on others the diffuser and nose screw directly into the body. I'm still mulling that over, as I don't think that all Scaley F1 cars 2005-2017 have that feature and I don't want to create an unlevel playing field in the interest of trying to preserve front axle assemblies.
