2019 CanAm Proxy Round 5 Wayne's World

Gentlemen, My apologies for the delay and lack of coverage. My free time allocated to slot cars has been limited this pass summer.

The race and qualifying was run last night. Qualifying started by last to first using the current points. Wayne (aka Lumpy) did the driving chores. Normally Wayne and I try to put on a video but time did not allow for it. Congrats to Tony on his # 1 qualifying spot. His car was by far extremely easy to drive fast.

The race was run using all 4 lanes running two minute heats. Drivers stayed in the lanes but due to fatigue.... two drivers switched out halfway. Cars were attempted to be grouped in the way they qualified. We did utilize track calls because not all sections of this track can be marshalled. Drivers also drove "easily" in the squeeze when around other drivers in an attempt not to vary teh outcome of the race due to an off in the squeeze but... sometimes sh*t happens when racing.

We do have a repair. Car number 33 at the very end of his last heat had the car start to sputter. Turned out the lead wires are tinned and the lead wire broke off at the end of the tinning. OK to fix this car Allan?

Be careful if you tin your lead wire!

Thanks to the guys at Wayne's World for an excellent run (special shout to Wayne Dawg for getting Bruce's #4 McLaren all the way up to 5th in quali :music-rockout: ). Congrats to Smokio for rising above all us Thunderslot believers (again :D ), and to DRW21 and Brumos for their podium placings. This is getting interesting.

Thank you for the round at Wayne's World, plus the repair to the #33. Imaging if the wire didn't break, I may of had a shot at the win. Given the tight competition, I wish there was a point given for qualifying. Congratulations to Smokieo and Dave on your finishes. Also take a look at the rookies in this Proxy, definitely take a look at what they're doing as their results are pretty strong. I can't wait to see the official points. I'm with Scott - I can't figure out how that 'Total Points' column is calculated, or what it is supposed to represent.....

I believe the total points column may be overall ranking prior to the race.

Thanks to Smokeio and Wayne for hosting and driving. Congratulations to the podium finishers. I see Courtney and I swapped positions between qualifying and finishing. Upper half of the field, not bad. Wow finished ahead of some of my top building heroes. I not complaining.

That must be some kind of timing system that measures to .99 of a lap. Wonder how many feet that was behind 11th place?

No timing system was involved in measuring fractions of a lap. On tracks were there is enough space to park the cars after they are finished we just leave them next to the track, but that is not possible with Wayne's World, however the track is marked off in 10 sections. When a car is finished we make note of what section it is in and estimate another tenth of a section. Since a section is a tenth of a lap a tenth of a section is a hundredth of a lap. There is in fact a program that attempts to determine what fraction of a lap a car has when its race is over. If you program in the length of each lane the computer uses the average lap time for the last heat and the length of the lane to calculate where it has stopped. The hitch with that is that the car might have crashed or at least gotten held up during its final lap.
