I took my dragster Fiat to racing tonight. After all the Oohs and Ahhs, I put it on the track. Starting at 10 volts, it ran like a normal slot car, and handled the curves of Luf's Targa surprisingly well. I stopped often and then gave full power to see if I could get a wheelie. Only heading up from the bottom of the hill. I turned up the power to 14v and I could get very small wheelies, but they happened so quickly that I couldn't tell if the wheelie bar wheels were touching or not. I may get Luf to take a slomo of it to see. It is geared 10:28 which isn't a low enough ratio for real stand-up wheelies, but I also want it to be there at the end and still accelerating. Of course the emphasis is on speed and elapsed time, not whether it pops a wheelie or not.
Fun, none the less.
I also took my less finished LSR Studebaker. It is geared 11:24 and is surprisingly quick. With a ratio of 2.18:1, it should be able to streak down the last half of the course. Its light weight and streamlined shape should help also.
