Great to see this. I think the Cheetah is the best car in the Carrera line-up. The body fits so tightly I didn't think it was possible to gain a little float. Thanks for the tips, now I have a little more work to do on my three Cheetahs

I hope someone can help me, was able to get an older Cheetah off of eBay , was going to do a rebuild on it . it has a metal chassis , and what looks like an open can motor, what I want to do is change the gearing and tires, do a repaint of the body , My question is, is there another chassis that will fit the body that is plastic , one that has the same mounting holes for the body. So far I have the car broken down to just the body and chassis , original tires were garbage, so I was going to replace them with new ones but might cut the original wheels down to use as inserts. If there is another chassis that will fit the body that would be fine, if not I will see what I can do to try and keep it all together.

My bet is that you have found a Strombecker Cheetah,.....if you are a very lucky boy you may have a Cox Cheetah. Both can be refurbished/rebuilt to basically any state of "tune" you desire, but neither will accept an off the shelf current plastic chassis without at least some body post relocation\/work.

As Harry indicated, pictures are the place to start, and an indication of what you want the car to do/compete with.

Hey , thanks for the replies , I hope to have pictures in the near future if I can figure out how to post them here. I can give you a description of the body , it is blue in color, thin tires all around( will be replacing those ) , I have the body , chassis , all apart and in a sandwich baggie so I don't lose it, and now I can't find it. But when I do I will try and take pictures and post them, my plan Is to paint it yellow and black , with maybe stripes on it. I do know that it had larger axels, which I plan on making smaller. Have brass tubing that I will use as bushings or a place to mount bushings to . Keep the old motor , unless it is to worn out. try and refresh it some but still keep the old look of the car

Harry isn't the gear mesh a little noisy or is the camera amplifying the sound? Sounds grindy. Handles well though.

Harry - relative to your 2015 "scale speed" comment below, I think I'm beginning to see the light. For family and friend events (which for my home racing is basically the only racing I have at this point), I've marked the bottom of all cars with the Carrera Control Unit Speed that basically will allow that particular car to require braking at the end of both straights, but will hold in the curved sections - say 95-100% of the time (with cleaned tires).

I've had two events - the first was full speed and the second with the governed speed. The first was near fiasco and the second was awesome. Only minor marshaling by my wife and I was required during the 2nd running with lots of laughing and screaming by the racers. Can't wait for the next event.

I like to tune these Carrera Classics to follow the style of racing formed many moons ago with NINCO. I use an MT1 motor to keep the models more to scale speeds as I enjoy them this way. Just a personal preference

The gear mesh is fine, but that car is just isn't a very quiet runner when you loosen up the chassis and allow body float. The Cobra running mate is the same :doh:

Yes, sometimes upgrading a car means to tame it. Too many keep dropping in more and more motor, and they can't handle the one it had stock. I tune for my own smaller track and quite honestly, we never need much more than 18-20K motors. In fact, many of the cars that are the most fun to race have been tamed with slower RPM motors. This Cheetah is just one of many.
