We've got 34 racers signed up at this point. With a cut-off at 32, I've started a Waiting List.
One of the intents of this proxy is to not turn any racers away; this is all about having fun and, generally; within the constraints of how many cars can easily be handled at any given track, the more the merrier. So, no one needs to bow out at this point so that another racer can have a slot. We will find a way to accommodate those who want to race.
I've run quite a few proxies in the past 3 years and, with only one exception, I have never seen the field equal to the number of racer that sign up. Life just happens, people get busy, emergencies crop up, priorities change, etc., etc. My rule of thumb now is that you tend to see about 85-90% of those who have signed up actually on the starting grid. So, I think the idea of a Waiting List makes sense.
In order to give people on the waiting list time to build a car; if a slot opens up, I'm going to advance the Registration Fee deadline from April 1st to March 1st. Those who pay their Registration Fee by March 1 are guaranteed a place in the field. After March 1st, those that have not paid may be replaced by Waiting List racers who do pay; based on your numerical position in the Sign-up list.
I think that this is a fair way to proceed, it gives everyone on the Sign-up list almost 2 months to get their Registration Fee paid and for Waiting List racers that go into the field, it gives you almost 2 months to build out your car, which is, generally, reasonable.
Having laid that out, the reality is that if the Waiting List stays short, then there's probably a way to get everyone running together......... But, if you want to race, then post your interest and I'll add you to the Waiting List.
I'm open to other ways to proceed, so let me hear from you if you don't think that the above is a workable approach.
