Controller question

Are the Difalco Neo controllers worth the extra dollars over a truspeed BPII? I'm looking to upgrade from a Parma turbo. I've tried the 17 band neo and liked it a lot. Is the 30 band much different? Will be mostly for home use and occasionally for club races. 1/32 & 1/24

If you race a lot, especially in big events like the recent 24 hour race at Area 51, you would want the best controller possible. For more casual racing you would probably be pleased with either controller. It would be nice if you could try both controllers for yourself, otherwise you will have to rely on the experiences of others. I don't know anyone that uses a Truspeed controller, so I can't offer even second hand information. When I stepped up from a Difalco Fanatic to a Difalco Genesis my lap times did go down, not necessarily by a huge amount, but even fractions of a second will add up in time. The newer controllers also have extra features that are useful from time to time.

I have both the Truspeed and the Difalco.

They're both nice. I use the TruSpeed for casual racing or practicing at home.
At bigger events like a 24 hour race, it's the Difalco that goes along for the ride.

Hard to beat the the Truspeed value wise at $90, but if I could only have one. it'd be the more expensive Difalco.

I have the MT II and really like it. It has senesity, acceleration and brake controI, min speed adjutment. A two finger trigger is included and an adjustable spring tension. I dont care for feel of the DiFalco in my hand and really dislike the trigger.

There are aftermarket triggers available for Difalco controllers, I know several people that use them. In my opinion an endorsement by a person that only has tried one of the controllers in question has limited value to a person that is trying to choose between them.
No matter how good your lap times are in the long run you will not be happy with a controller that does not feel comfortable in your hand, that is one reason that I recommend trying a controller for your self. Many controllers use Parma grips, if you already have a Parma controller you will at least have a rough idea about how one of those will feel. Other controllers, like the ones by Professor Motor use the Slotworks grips and there is a third style that Truspeed uses that is similar to the Parmas.
One last thing to consider is how durable or reliable a controller might be. If you only do casual running/racing that would not be quite as important, if you are a more serious racer you would not want to have a controller fail in the middle of a major event. Difalco controllers are quite robust, in addition they have a diode and circuit breaker that protect against misconnections and short circuits. Other controllers might only have a fuse. If you blow a fuse during a race your day will probably be over, even if you have a spare handy.
