Yeah, he would. He and I were at Taladega in 1991 and made fast friends over a shared experience that was very unpleasant. A racer was killed in an ARCA race, and the family was... a problem. It made a tough job much worse. I was a new chaplain and he was a seasoned commentator, and we had some down time in the field hospital at a crucial moment before the injured driver was helicoptered out. By the time the rain delayed 500 Winston Cup race was run on Monday, we were waving across the crowd at each other. The point is, The Professor cared about folks and would certainly have paid attention to someone doing his car as a slot car. Nice chap.
