I like the oval because I grew up around them. I remember the first car I helped build was a 64 GTO my dad was making a Late Model Stocker out of in 69/70. Also had Mid America Raceway which was a world class road coarse in ts day, but the excitement of the dirt oval was just to much.

Very cool pics John, thanks for sharing!!

What I also like is the crowd in the stands... :D

Hey, you know, I bet it wouldn't be hard to replicate your dad's car in 1/32 or 1/24...
Do you happen to know what the actual color is?

I believe it was grey. I can ask him. No it wouldn't be to hard to replicate.Thought about several times. Could be a good project for me while out on the truck

Oval racing feels more reactive. You can spend 5 laps setting someone up for the pass, and the the car running inside you shows up, or someone 5 lanes below you does something that causes everyone's timing to change.

Having said that, my favorite 1:1 cars and racing are Modifieds, Bombers, Late Models, Sprints, etc. We have an oval because we're modeling that type of racing. Driving 1:1 cars, I enjoyed Lime Rock a lot more than Riverhead. Its all good.

I have found out Oval racing is much harder than you think. It is very easy to get comfortable then all of a sudden BAM in the wall. Very deceiving Ovals are. I am wrecking more on my oval than my road course. Indybob
