Sprints Plus

Happy Holidays. After 6 years i finally found the time and finished my routed bullring. Its a 3 lane oval on a 4x8 sheet. I will post pics soon. Ive started to test and tune and boy am i hooked. Im running sprints plus with wire cages top and nose wings with pro track tires treated with sunscreen and falcon 7 motors. Couple of questions:
1. What gearing would best suit this size of track? Im running between 7-9 volts.
2. The cars are chattering when the throttle is applied from a standstill and out of corners
3. Do you have to oil these motors if so where?

Im a newbie so sorry for the silly questions.

It sounds like you got a fun track to run on. Here are my opinions on your three questions.

1. I would think that on a small oval you'd want to get the motor revs up . I'd try a 7T or 8T pinion & depending upon the size of your rear tires, maybe a 33T crown gear. Ultimately, you may have too fast a motor for your track & need something slower than a Falcon 7.

2. Chattering could be caused by a lot of things. Do you have your rear axle bushings either soldered or epoxied into the chassis? Take a medium grit sandpaper & round the edges of your tires. If neither of these two steps eliminates the chattering, you may have a slightly bent rear axle, out of round tires or a crown gear with a lot of runout.

3.Yes the motors should be oiled, but not too much or too often. I would get a pinpoint oil that despenses drops of oil. After about ever half hour of running, place a drop on the armature shaft at the pinion gear end, & another drop on the armature shaft at the front end of the motor that the leadwires attach to. The front end of the motor is where your motor brushes are. Not over-oiling this end of the motor is critical to the motor's operation.

I hope some of these thoughts help, but if you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask. This board has many knowledgeable members who are willing to help.

Get a much slower rpm motor, the falcon, and hawlk 7 are for the bigger tracks....tire chatter hapens on our big oval with clean foam tires...I find lighter fluid gives some slippage ....But when we run without the top wing we have no problem with wheel hopp through the turns....

How about weight. Im starting to add weight but when does it start to become counter productive. What is a good total car weight.

Thanks
