Harry's Buick, just what class is it...

I spent most of my younger years at a pavement track. Since I spent the better part of the last three years on the couch with shoulder injuries/surgeries I had some time to watch TV. Started with truck pulls and started watching late model dirt track. I have seen a lot of builds with heavy body mods like Harrys Buick, Another build with a mustang that is in black primer right now. I spent the better part of four hours last night searching dirt short track, late models, trying to find a circa 71 challenger or 67 chevelle set up like the buick or the mustang to no avail. Am I searching for the wrong series or class? trying to find a challenger or chevelle pics with the lowered roof/shovel nose as I am thinking of changing my figure 8 build style to the dirt track style. really taking a liking to them, and I do have a oval track. Those style cars look cool and I already cut the nose of my cars anyway. Or should I just do it up "fantasy" style. Sorry if it is kinda a stupid question, but I was a pavement racer.... :lol: :lol:

I simply designed my own. Using a couple cars as inspiration.


I also remember a couple Montes and a Buick from my younger days that had some serious shovel noses.

So you won't find any 1:1 Car exactly like it. Just created a body that looks like it could have been. Given that there were countless cars that were bent, shaped, adjusted from track to track, I felt it worked.

For our series, the body fits right into the Sportsmans.

IMHO a fantasy style that appeals to you is just half the fun.

During my winged sprint seat time on the dusty ovals in the midwest, those cars were usually called late models. Those front ends were some kind of rubber riveted to the front ends to take the abuse of the dirt tracks. At the tracks I raced at, those boys ran the biggest thumpers they could build. If you didn't have a big block, you didn't unload the trailer. Our sprints were faster, but nothing shook the ground like those beasts.

Thanks Guys, So I will do some 'fantasy' sportsman builds. I picked up the spot/glazing putty, and will hit the hobby shop tomorrow for some other stuff. Have a couple sheets of styrene plastic to work with.
