T-Bird Mod

In my continuing quest to make something out of the junk I have laying around, I did a quickie build of a '60 T-Bird.
I started with a beat up styrene chassis left from the Parts-Box proxy of spring 2014.
I replaced the Hawk motor with a Piranha to make sure it would be overpowered & added a few new brass rods.
It had some old Parma foam tires on it, I smeared 2 coats of urethane over the rears, then trued on my Razor.
It made for some pretty hefty meats on the rear.
I had no inserts to fit the hubs so I used some computer printed ones glued to a foam plug.
I had some old printed bead locks in the drawer, so they're glued to the tires also.



I had some pretty rough resin slosh castings I found on E-Bay for $10.
It took me & the Dremel most of an afternoon to clean out the inside To make it mostly usable.
Since it could never be salvaged as a complete body, I cut it up in a few pieces & reassembled it as a mod.
Painted with bright gold enamel as a primer & covered that with blue metalic Dupli-Color.
Liberated the decals from an AMT Nascar Thunderbird.

What a great car and effort. All the modeling is cool as usual, but the "liberated" Sterling Marlin decals are just classic.

Most of my oval cars have custom styrene chassis too, so I like what you've got going there. I also like how you add brass nerf bars and bumpers which I don't do.

If you ever have time a tutorial on making urethane over foam tires would be nice. Beefy silicone over foam tires are still the best on my hardboard oval, but urethane tires are tops on my mdf road course.

I think there are some tutorials on doing the same thing with silicone.
Nothin' to it. I just mixed a couple teaspoons of A & B in a paper cup, got a finger full & smeared it all
over a wheel/tire mounted on an axle. I rolled the axle around between my fingers while I watched 10 minutes
of TV, then set it aside somewhere, 'till it was mostly cured. It takes at least 2 applications or you will go
through it when the Tire Razor does it's thing.
I used some almost dried up urethane, so it was pretty tacky/heavy when I started.
